City2Surf 2008 - FINISHED!

I am still alive... I ran the City2Surf in 135 minutes (approx.) - mostly walking. I ran the first 3-4km to catch up to a friend and then we walked the rest of the way. It was quite a pleasant walk, too! Next year I will definitely be running and from Wednesday (give myself a few days rest) I will be running again.

Goal - Run the Sydney Half Marathon 2009

I may also go in the Bridge to Bridge run in September (this year) which is 9km. Depends on the day.

Still alive...

I finished the City2Surf today, quite happily in about 135 minutes. Not bad for walking!! I think it has inspired me again to run, so look out! Sydney Half Marathon 2009, here we come!!

City2Surf 2008

It's City2Surf tomorrow. Last year I did really well (just over 100 minutes) and it is unfortunate that I did not train for this year's race as they have implemented timing chips this year!! The reason why this is so great, is that last year (and I imagine previous years) it took 15 minutes to get to the start line from where you had lined up! That meant, that 15 minutes was added onto your time. This year, your timing chip starts timing when you cross the start line!!!!! Such a brilliant idea! Hopefully they like using the timing chips so that when I run next year I will be able to get into one of the top two groups.

This year I will be running the first 5-odd km and then walking with The Boy's sister. I don't expect a good time, but it'll be good to get back into the exercise! Maybe the slowness of our pace will give me the kick up the bum that I need!!

Almost to plan...

Although I didn't go for a run today (no excuse, just didn't), I did managed to go for a quick (read: 6 minutes!) sprint on the spin bike. I was riding at 40-odd km/hr, so I was going pretty hard! I guess I could have sprinted for longer, but I decided that I should ease into it.

The main thing is, I DID SOMETHING!!! YAY! I also chased Jedi around the yard for about 15 minutes... He loves chasies and is soooooooo much faster than me!

Plus, I ate healthy food today! YAY!

Back into it

So from today, I am back into my exercise routine and eating right.

I've realised that I have a trouble with balance. I get focused on one thing and then lost sight of everything else that was important to me. Running and being fit was my focus last year and now that I am back at uni, I haven't run since!! Plus, having my pup is yet another focus and I seem to be prioritising him and my uni work over my health. So, enough is enough, I am determined to fit all three things in! I have so many other hobbies as well (saxophone, scrapbooking, etc) but there's no way that I can do it all. At the moment I don't even have time to read anything that doesn't begin in "Physiology of...", or "Principles and Practice of..."

Tonight on SBS there was a doco on this group of unfit, sedentary average people who after a year of training were able to run the Boston Marathon. If they can do something like that, so can I. I have always dreamed of running a marathon (or at least a half) and there's no reason why I wouldn't be able to do it.

Another factor that has made me realise what I have been missing is that I have put on 4kg, plus lost most of my muscle, so the amount of fat that I have put on is INSANE!!!!!!!! I seriously need to lose weight.

So this is it. From today, I am in!

So, my stats for today:

Weight: 83.7kg
Fat %: 35.2
Total Water %:46.6
BMI: 24.9
